Basaran

This plant is found in the hot desert of Sinai. Its botanical name is Artemisia Judaica. It is well known in the bible as the bitter herb found in the desert during the wandering of the ancient Israelite. Its common name is judean wormwood or the wormwood of the bible. Holy wormwood (Artemisia judaica) grows in the Levant, the lands east of the Mediterranean. Its Arabic name is baathran, boaitheran, or shih, shih baladi. It is a well known plant as a snake repellant by burning its branches.It also has medicinal uses.

Mostly it is used for stomach aches, as it is used as stomachic, antihelminthic, expectorant, analgesic, diaphoretic and antispasmodic in intestinal colics.
Inhaled leaves relieve cold congestion

 

Other uses:
The volatile oil prepared from flowering plants is used as an insecticide, antihelmithic, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic agent . It has antimicrobial effect against staphylococcus aureus and candidia albicans.It is mostly used as a snake repellent by burning the branches. Also as a bug and flea repellent.
